Puppies!

This is one of the best ideas I've heard about in a long time:

The Puppy Channel was a short-lived American cable television channel whose programming consisted entirely of video footage of puppies.

It's a pity it didn't survive, although it apparently wasn't THAT short-lived, either: it did broadcast for four years, according to Wikipedia, and only folded in the end with the bursting of the dot-com bubble in 2001.

Today, there's still the annual Puppy Bowl (thanks to altivo.dreamwidth.org for pointing this one out to me); the first five Puppy Bowls are apparently available on DVD, too, although some are OOP, and there's also the Puppy Games '08, a puppy version of the olympics, and a DVD called Puppy Party.

And of course, there's Youtube! Check out this cute bunch, for example:

Here's another cute puppy video; and of course, big pups can be very cute, too. ^^ (And if you still need further proof of THAT, I'll also submit shadow_stallion's pup — a very cute snowdog who's very happy to have snow right now. ^^)

Seriously, if you ever feel bad (sad, stressed, whatever), just watch a video of some cute puppies romping and playing, and you'll feel better in no time.

Thanks for posting these, I always forget how cute and adorable puppies are.

It's weird, puppies always make me feel better watching them, but as soon as I stop I get sad that I'm not in a position to get a dog or two :(

Ah, yeah, I know what you mean — it's similar for me. But on the other hand, it won't stay like this forever, and while I can't get a dog right now, I'll be able to do so in the future.

The same's gonna be true for you, too, right?

Indeed, and it's getting closer all the time. While I'm normally patient, especially when it comes to such a good thing as getting such a good friend or two for a long time in my life (and theirs!), puppies just make me really want one /now/!

They are cute little fuzzballs of impatience making!

So what breeds are you thinking of getting when you can?

And for that matter what is holding you back from getting one now?

I'm not sure yet, actually. I'd certainly like a malamute, but it seems they're not recommended for beginners; beyond that, I like samoyeds, white long-coated shepherds, and a couple of other breeds like collies and so on. Landseers are cute, too, as are great pyrenees and Bernese mountain dogs. Beyond that, in theory, I could see myself getting a "toy-sized" dog like a long-haired chihuahua or a pomeranian that could live in a city apartment without too many problems.

That's one of the reasons I can't really get a dog right now, too: I don't have the right place for one, especially a large one. The second problem is that it'd cost money that I don't have (especially for a large breed); and the third problem is that a dog is gonna be with me for 10 to 15 years and that I don't know what'll happen in my life then and whether I'll always be in a situation to keep a dog. Oh yeah, and I'd rather avoid leaving my dog alone for extended periods of time, something that'd be difficult to accomplish when you're living alone.

All are similar reasons to why I haven't got a dog yet. Though hopefully after uni the money part shouldn't be as much of an issue.

I'm most interest in going for the big dogs, a husky (though not at first, and preferably only if I move somewhere colder) or a German Shepherd. There are a couple of breeds that I can't remember, but you need special permission in the UK to have. They're good tempered, but the UK spooks if it is too close to a wolf for some reason.

A Labrador would be good as well, friendly and energetic, and better suited to the city life I will likely end up in.

Yeah, people have recommended labrador retrievers and golden retrievers to me, too. And sure, they're cute enough – certainly much cuter than quite a few other breeds –, but they're just not breeds I love, myself.

My uncle and aunt have one. Poor thing is dumber than two fence posts, but is incredibly energetic and playful. He's a wonderfully loveable dog.

*noddles* OK. :) Mmm, I've got to admit I'd prefer to have an intelligent dog, all in all.

As would I, but there is no denying this one was lovely. Lucky thing is a farm dog, so theirs plenty of room for him to roam, though he always likes to stick with my uncle.

An all - puppies, all - day channel sounds like a great idea to me! :) Puppies are about as cute as it gets!
