Earthquake

Well, everyone's already writing about the earthquake that hit Japan and the resulting tsunami (it's been on literally every single channel on the Internet this morning, as it were — email, news websites, Slashdot, my LJ friends page, Wikipedia etc.), so I'm not gonna add much to it, but if you're living in the pacific area, no matter whether it's Japan or Chile, the USA or Australia... stay safe, if you can.

For up-to-date information, the Wikipedia article will probably prove to be a good choice.

I didn't know of it until I saw Rab's posting this morning. My television of choice when having my first coffee is NickJr, which isn't into news shows...

Ah, yeah — myself, I don't watch TV at all, so I didn't catch it there (and if I did, I wouldn't watch it in the morning). But yeah, I saw it on plushlover's journal, too, and on a couple of others, but at that point, I'd already read about it on nanog (by email) and elsewhere as well.

Australia should be okay - we have Papua New Guinnea 'shielding' us. My fear is more for the small islands in indonesia, that have no real tsunami warning systems. Pretty much everywhere else that's at risk has some sort of sensor network and warning system in place.

*noddles* Aye, those too; I hope people are gonna be OK there.

Ack, and now it seems like the nuclear power plant in Fukushima's suffering a fatal failure, too. I really hope that's not gonna get any worse than it already is.

Yeah, I heard. Though I think they said 2 power plants were having the problem - the other in Sendai (?)

Come tomorrow, there'll be no Japan.

Ah, might be; I haven't really checked the news today yet.

Let's hope for the best, too. :/
