Spellchecking

I'm probably far too easily amused, but I couldn't help but get a good laugh out of the suggestions that LibreOffice's spellchecker gave for my own name. In order, these are (no, I'm not making it up):

  • Schneider
  • Schnozzle
  • Schnitzel
  • Schnabel
  • Technologist
  • Psychoanalytic

I had no idea what a schnozzle even is (although it's a cute word ^^); "schnitzel" seems reasonably fitting in its own silly way, but I have no idea where "technologist" and "psychoanalytic" came from. Seriously, these aren't even remotely similar, are they? :)

Jimmy Durante always made jokes about his 'shnozz;' it's a word mostly heard in comedies and farces.

I'm tempted to leave spell-checked/replaced words in my twitter posts because of their unusual nature. Like you ask, "where do these come from?"

*nods* Ah, interesting. :) I'd imagine it's related to the German word "Schnauze"; that one means "snout" or "muzzle", and in fact, if you were to put these three words into a shaker and mix well, you might well end up with "schnozzle". :)

As for "where do these come from", I'm tempted now to take a text, intentionally misspell every word, and then run it through a spellchecker always accepting a random suggestion; I wonder if it'd still make any apparent sense afterwards. :)

Well... maybe not. It's kind of a joke, when you say someone looks like a certain name: "He looks like a 'Shawn'," "She looks like an 'Anna'," etc..

And that was fast!

Heh, OK. :)

And thanks — but all credit is due to biff. ;) (Well, not the original, but.)
