Hat tip to avon_deer for pointing out a rather amazing video (which I recommend watching in HD and full-screen):

That's really got to be an incredible feeling. At the same time, it seems like a good way to get yourself killed or at least horribly maimed, but in reality, it's probably safer than it looks, even when you're diving through canyons and the like. :)

Check out the Wikipedia articles on wingsuit flying and BASE jumping for more, too.

Hmm, let me guess: you'd love to try it? ^^

(I can relate to that; so would I.)

Oh yes. This has been on my list of "things to do when I win the lotto" for a while. It's about as close to being a plane as any person is likely to get :D

True. ^^

Heh, and if I ever win the lottery, I'll make sure that we'll both get to try it. ;)

Wingsuit BASE jumping is probably the poster child for "if you aren't already doing it before you win the lottery, you don't want it enough." :P

If you *really* want to do it, you find a way to do it now. For anything less than "really want to do it", it's just stupidly dangerous.

Besides which, BASE jumping is what you do when sky-diving gets boring. Wingsuit BASE jumping is what you do when you've mastered ordinary BASE jumping. These are things you do when you're young, fit, and crazy. Waiting to win the lottery first is just wasting valuable training time.

I think you're reading far too much into this.

Heh, that was my first thought exactly, too — they really look like sugar gliders or so, don't they? ^_^

wow, more adrenaline than I could ever handle....

You gotta know what your doing to fly around like that. Though, to be honest, I've wondered of a large inflatable suit something on the order of these, but with bigger wings, then filled with helium would make flight possible. I may be way off whats possible, but the thought has crossed my mind ;)

It probably would, but you'd have to be careful to not end up like Lawnchair Larry. :)

I can see me trying this, and probably loving it.

Now if only I had the money and location to do this.
