365 days of SL, day 59:

(Click for larger; 1920x1033 PNG, 1546 KiB. Also available unedited; 1920x1033 PNG, 1630 KiB)

I spent some more time on SL yesterday than in the previous days, but still, nothing actually happened other than us sitting around and talking. However, I didn't want to post yet another screenshot like that, so for lack of any better ideas, I decided to take a picture of the entire FP estate. The above screenshot is edited slightly to remove the reflections of various skyboxes (really, people should NOT be allowed to put these up below at least 1 or 2 km!) as well as some rendering artifacts in the water around the sim.

There's been shots like this before; I did a view of Black Gazza on day 32, and a view of Alikat's Ponyplay Stables (and the surrounding sims) on day 11. It's not the most creative thing to do anymore, but hey ho. :)

Of course, after I actually went through the trouble of editing the screenshot, I thought that maybe the sole quick "what actually happened" shot I also got might be more interesting to people after all; I didn't want to let the effort with the above one go to waste, though, so you'll get this one as a bonus picture instead:

This one is really just a very quick snapshot, as evidenced by the fact that e.g. the texture on the tree behind the houses to the right hasn't even finished loading yet; I also obviously didn't pay any attention to composition, environment, graphics settings and so on. But it's very much a "slice of life" shot that shows what actually went on: sitting around, talking, enjoying being back on SL. :)

Location: FP Enigma (3, 151, 18). The screenshot is faced towards FP Enigma from about West-Northwest, and also shows Kalmeera (behind FP Enigma, on the left), FP Yokai (directly behind FP Enigma, sharing only a corner with it), FP Proteus (behind FP Enigma, to the right), and FP Artemis (to the right of FP Enigma, again only sharing a corner with it). To avoid further confusion, here is a handy map, too.

MMm, looks nice, The sim I live in it's not a 100% RULE but it's an advisory to put all skyboxes at 1200m or higher so they're not visable from the ground and dont cast big shadows.

That's a good rule. :) I tend to crank up my view distance to 1024m for these shots, and low-hanging skybox building really messes things up then. It's my general opinion that skyboxes should never be visible from the ground at all, no matter your view distance. (Flying objects like moving planes, birds etc. don't count, obviously.)

There's a bunch of stray shadows on the landmass here, too, but they're not do distracting really... and it would've been much more difficult to edit them out, too. For the water areas, you just need GIMP's clone tool, and perhaps a gentle application of the blur and smudge brushes. :)

Thanks, too. ^^

I could almost swear I recognise your companion. Was he not upset at the poor behavior in the background?

What's the reason for all the little blocks in the map? Is the adult rating relevant? ^_^

I really need to explore more. It's rather humiliating, looking in my SL Pics dir, and seeing just how few I've taken in the past year, or even two years. I just keep feeling so shy of encountering anybody else..

I imagine you would recognize him. :) What poor behavior in the background, though?

I have no idea about the yellow blocks on the map. I imagine they're skybox builds that are yellow on the top for some reason, but I couldn't say for sure. Looking back at this now, two months later, I think it may be "land for sale" markers. I probably forgot to turn that off in the map window.

Mmm, you should say hi when you see me online some time. :)
