365 days of SL, day 67:

(Click for larger — 1920x1033 PNG, 2339 KiB)

Yesterday, we went to one of the sims bordering Alikat's again. This one, like the late Kerry Bog Farms, borders Lake Alicia, but whereas the former was located to its west, this one's found to its east.

Like KBF, it has undergone changes, too; the front half of the sim, which was always sparsely-decorated, is entirely empty nowadays (this can be seen easily on the map, or also on the Alikat's estate overview from day 11). The backside, however, is generally quite nice.

There's a campfire there where we sometimes used to sit, too. We stopped at some point when we noticed that another person (the parcel owner, perhaps) was teleporting after a few minutes in whenever we went there; as they say, once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, but three times is enemy action, and it was a bit creepy, too. But she didn't show up when we went again last night.

There's other things there, too: a waterfall, a few bridges across streams, a furnished glass tetraeder, a grave (for noone in particular, IIRC) and more. There also used to be a hammock in the past, but I didn't see it yesterday, and the sandwich-with-cheese-and-eggs bed that somebody (pretty randomly) placed on a meadow is gone, too. Pity — that one was cute. :)

Here's a few old screenshots that I collected, edited (to remove various HUD attachments), resized and uploaded:

I hope you appreciate the trouble I went to there. :P

Anyhow — the main screenshot for today just shows what part of the area looks like today; a rock trail leading away from the campfire, through a gap between two hills, past a couple of trees and to a house.

Speaking of trees, most (all?) of the trees in this area use a construction style that was popular in the past; basically, four intersecting textured planes, creating (viewed from above) eight 45° angles. It's a reasonable method for quickly creating trees and other planes that'll look OK at a distance, but it's not all that realistic up close, and I got lucky with the above screenshot: it's not really very obvious there.

Oo, looks like somewhere I ought to visit sometime. I certainly ought to get a bit more SL photography done, for one thing.

It's such a pity when a loved locale vanishes. I still miss Taco especially, as well as the old Sables d'Alliez, when Lost Furest were based there. Taco was such a gloriously diverse place - you'd meet all sorts there, and easily fall into large group chats, gathered around one of the bizarre spots there, or just nowhere in particular.

Oh yeah — it's quite sad indeed. In virtual worlds, when something vanishes, it vanishes completely and without traces; and often, when it wasn't wildly popular, there won't be a lot about it in the collective public brain (the Internet as indexed by Google), either. Even popular places likely won't have a lot of web pages etc. dedicated to them — after all, while they're still in existence, why put up a web page when people can just go and see them directly?

But all things change, of course, and that's the way life is, and you can't do anything about it, short of moving on, and keeping your own memories.
