365 days of SL, day 217:

OK, so I didn't really go anywhere last night after all. However, I did end up poking around Black Gazza for a while in the end, looking for something interesting to take a picture of[1], and I came across this curious field of fog again.

I say "again" because I've encountered it (and wondered about it) before, although it's not been featured in this project yet. I'm not sure what it's purpose is, although I like the effect: it makes everything look like a cool, foggy morning in March, with dew covering the newly-sprouting leaves and the birds just starting to cause an annoying racket chirp.

In any case, I hope I'll have an opportunity to explore again this night, at least; I'd like to, but I'm often both tired and busy/stressed in the evenings, which isn't a good combination. I think I should work on changing that, not just for the sake of this project but also my own.

Location: Black Gazza (215, 63, 22) (A-9)

  1. Alas, I often have to go and actively search for something, since otherwise my evenings regularly consist of little more than standing/sitting around and talking, especially now that most of the places I frequent that I could show off towards the beginning of the project have been shown. There's not a lot of low-hanging fruits anymore, and I've also gotten less inclined to reach for the higher-hanging ones.

Oh, that's rather unusual! Presumably some sort of particle effect?

BTW, what are the best water effects you've seen? With SL lacking any support for fluids (*ahem*), it's quite difficult for sim owners to craft features like waterfalls or streams.

Yeah, I think it was a particle effect; pretty much everything that's not a prim in SL is, isn't it? :) Nice, too, although there is some banding visible.

Hmm, water effects — good question. I couldn't actually name any right now, since I tend to really only take note of water when it's not done well, e.g. waves at a sim's shore that look unrealistic and so on. That said, I still have fond memories of the waterfall at the beach in Sihasapa (seen on day 90, and also on day 105, although it's hardly visible there) — now long gone, of course. (And you wouldn't believe how often I end up wishing that I could go to those sims again.)

The fog is periodic: it only comes out at night. If you set the browser lighting to local time, it looks somewhat better.

Ah, I see. Local time — you mean sim-local, not local-local, right?

Sim local. The sun rises every four hours. :)

OK. :) Yeah, I often stick to sim-local time anyway — I find it often gives rather nice shots. Much more varied than what you'll get if you stick to the four "standard" settings, too. :)
