365 days of SL, day 345:

We returned to Second Norway last night. It's an amazingly well-designed sim; and not just that, it's part of a fairly large Norwegian-themed estate that's of a similarly high quality. The whole thing's located to the northeast of Satori, BTW, and it's actually connected to the continent, which I think is pretty neat: it's actually the first such estate I've encountered (although sometimes, it may not be so obvious that a particular sim off the coast of a mainland continent isn't part of the mainland).

The Second Norway airport, anyhow, is quite realistic as far as I can tell. The above shot shows the terminal building and a bunch of check-in counters. The only thing that's missing here is crowds of passengers. :)

Here's a closer look at the check-in counters, just because.

The offices behind these were furnished and decorated just like you would expect, too, BTW; in fact, I didn't a single detail anywhere that had not been paid attention to. Yup, definitely a high-quality build.

We didn't have a long time to explore again, but we did go up the escalators seen on the right in the first shot... and found ourselves at some private hangars, filled with planes and cars and other vehicles. :) THIS is probably not what you'd expect in a real airport, but then I don't know how airports that do have both commercial and private flights (are there any?) handle this.

The exits from the escalators reminded me of those mechanisms that spit out returning bowling balls, BTW. Heh.

There was enough time for one more bit of exploration, so we exited the terminal hall at the far end (seen in the background in the first shot up above) and went through a dark underground tunnel, flooded with water (good thing that you don't need to breathe on SL!). We actually crossed sims while down there, but sim crossings on SL appear to have gotten much, much better compared to a year or two ago — unless you're racing around on overpowered crotch rockets, they're usually pretty painless these days.

As for myself? It's probably well-known that I like exploring underground.

And this is where we emerged in the end — one sim to the north of Second Norway, in Vest (as in "west", not "waistcoat"). Another beautiful sim that I'd love to explore some time.

(And yeah, that sign at the bottom of the picture hadn't finished loading its texture when I took this shot, but I didn't notice until later.)

Location: Second Norway (171, 169, 22) (Second Norway Lufthavn [ SNO / SLSN ])

The lack of crowds and complete neatness of the place give it some strange post-apocalyptic feel.

A fair few airports handle private and commercial traffic. It's usually just separated out so that never the twain shall meet, so to speak :) They'll share the runways and ATC services etc, but will often be on the opposite side of the airport to the commercial terminals and so on for safety and security and general appearances.
