Wow, it appears that LJ has decided to implement profile games; presumably, things like Farmville etc. on Facebook (there's one called Farm Frenzy, even, which seems like a pretty obvious clone, although not having looked into either, I can't say for sure). Imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery, I guess.
I really can't say I care much myself, and I'm not sure I see it as a step in what *I* personally consider the right direction, either, but it'll be interesting to see how this plays out nonetheless.

I just hope they're not going to forget that the reason LJ is successful at all is that it's different from the other sites — it's not Facebook (and offers things Facebook doesn't), it's not Blogger (and offers things that Blogger doesn't), and so on. LJ would be well-advised to keep it this way, since once it stops being special, the other sites will eat it for breakfast.
