365 days of SL, day 139:

Nothing much happened last night; we just sat around and talked without really going anywhere or doing anything.

Sometimes, I wish I hadn't embarked on this project, too. Not that it isn't nice to see the results (I regularly look at the screenshots accumulated so far, and I like almost all of them), but it does mean you always have to find something — or force something, more often than not, lately. It often feels as if we're only going to places "because I need a screenshot", not because that's what we really want to do. It's fun, but we wouldn't necessarily do it otherwise, and sometimes it feels rather tacked on.

Of course, not doing this'd mean that there'd be a lot of "boring" shots. Not that every screenshot has to showcase a new place, but I'd like to make them all interesting in some way, and it turns out that it's not always possible to reconcile that with also making them representative.

Not that that means that being on SL is not interesting as such. As moth_wingthane remarked, it's a lot like real life photography: "it was interesting to live the experience, but a still shot just cannot always convey that". You cannot convey the conversation that was had, how funny the jokes were, and all that.

But then this project's always changing and adapting, and I may well focus more on exposition rather than exploration for now.

In any case — just after I'd actually selected a screenshot for the night and written the above (I usually do this the next morning when I actually post that day's entry, but occasionally I'll do it in advance, too), it was decided that the JP display model that was removed a while ago to free up some prims should be put back up, and that gave me an opportunity to take some interesting shots after all. "There I was, minding my own business, when suddenly... PLANE!"

In fact, here's a bonus shot, too, with an overview over the parcel while we're standing on top of the display model:
