365 days of SL, day 150:

(Click for larger — 1920x1033 PNG, 1926 KiB)

We paid Levane Estate in Palmana (previously featured on day 106 and also seen in the bonus shot on day 125) a visit again last night. The bar we're occupying here is the same one you can see in the last day 106 screenshot (and the second-to-last one, in the background).

I've always had an affinity for bars for some reason, at least in Second Life. When BG had a nice one before it was gutted, I often used to hang out there, usually behind the counter, acting as the resident bar tender. Since the character I was playing at BG was from a more tribal society that was not so intimately familiar with modern technology and civilization, I could get away with quite a few unusual and unexpected actions — fun fun. :)

The bar here in Levane Estate is nice, too; quite shady if you turn on Lighting/Shadows, but maybe that's not so bad. The sun's enough to fry your brain there — not that that'd affect me. c.c

I also rather like the design with the fish tank built into the counter. The ball floating there is a poseball, BTW, entitled "Coyote bar girl" — and just as I suspected, it made you perform a cute routine that one might call a pole dance if it weren't for the lack of a pole, a direct reference to Coyote Ugly. (Great movie, BTW; I think I saw it at least five times in one week when it was in cinemas.)

Amusingly, BTW, the fishing game thing that you can also find in Palmana had two visitors again when we arrived there last night, patiently casting their lines and hoping for the big catch. Why do people spend their time that way? Logging on to SL to meet up and chat with friends, to RP, to explore and see interesting things, all that I can understand — but those games are just gamified time sinks, and virtual ones for that matter. Ah well, to each their own.

As for the bar, like the late Sihasapa, it's one of those places you really sort of wish was real — although the properties that make it so nice, like the quietness and calm and lack of people, would not survive the transition to real life, obviously.

Location: Palmana (222, 204, 22) (Levane Estate)

I should really track you down at some point. Make sure I'm awesome enough to be written about. x.o

Gryphe Padar is my name. Unsure if we actually met in the past. In SL, that is.

Hmm, I don't think so — "Gryphe Padar" doesn't ring a bell. But sure, do track me down — just give me a holler when you see me online. :)

No reason you couldn't be in a screenshot, too, although I can't promise you will be. :)

Heh, and did Gilda go grayscale? ^_~

I never bothered with Coyote Ugly on its release, but I've fetched it for watching sometime. Even if it may feel a bit too "Hollywood", it sounds like it ought to be enjoyable. And I'm probably going to have to try out that animation myself sometime - ought to be good for a shot or two. ^_^

I had a bar myself, you know. =:) But, I never really did anything in particular with the land, so when money became tight last year, I gave it up. (The subsequent tenant's worked wonders with it, happily) I might give landowning another try, but I'd want to be sure this time that it's genuinely snowy - I feel more content in that kind of terrain than the omnipresent tropical beaches. Snowshoe hare, you know.

I can understand the fishing, though I've never tried it myself, SL or RL - it's not about the catching, but more a peaceful means of enjoying the ambience. (Of course, in SL, it's entirely likely they were busy with chats as well) I know I've enjoyed just wandering around, happy to be somewhere I can be more like my real self.

I can see that about fishing in RL, but on SL... hmm, I'm not so sure I see it. I do understand where you're coming from, seeing as how enjoying the virtual ambience is a large part of what I do on SL myself, but you don't need the game for that.

And while I can't speak for this one in particular, these really tend to be heavily gamified upgrade treadmills that encourage you to grind: fish more so you can catch more/rarer/more expensive fish, make more points, buy better fishing gear so you can catch even more/rarer/more expensive fish, and so on.

Anyhow... :)

Coyote Ugly was fun, yeah; a little clichéd and a little predictable in retrospect, perhaps, but it was cute. I also rather like John Goodmann as an actor, I'll admit. ^^

Heh, and you had a bar? I never knew — pity it doesn't exist anymore, but yeah, maybe you'll join the ranks of the landowning sorts again some time. :) Snowy landscapes sound like fun, too; not that I don't enjoy the tropical resorts, but... arctic wolf, you know. ^_~

Be sure to let me know if you ever open another spot again. :)
