It was my rez-day yesterday, so we had some cake. :)
Rez-days, for those who aren't familiar with the term, are the anniversaries of your account creation on Second Life. They're not as important as birthdays are in RL, obviously, but it's not uncommon for people to say "oh, it's my rez day today" and for others to congratulate them.
In my case, it was my 7th; I've been on SL for seven years now, which is a fairly long time given that SL itself is less than 10 years old at this point. It's come a long way; I recall how it felt back when I first got on, with that basic old Luskwood avatar, when everything was new and unfamiliar. I think it may have been marko_the_rat who first got me to sign up; I recall hanging out with him on there, anyway (and feeling rather weird, as I basically approached SL from a MUCKer's perspective), but unfortunately my computer wasn't really up to the task.
I also remember walking across on the of the Linden roads even back then, trying to find interesting places; I didn't succeed, but then SL can be pretty difficult to get into if you don't have a native guide, friends who're already on there, specific places you want to visit etc.
Much of SL is different these days, in many ways. I sometimes wonder what the future'll hold for it, but I guess there's only one way to find out. :)
(Amusingly, BTW, SL sent me a "happy rez-day" email, complete with a link for an official rez-day cake, just the moment I logged out. Well, can't hurt to celebrate again today, now can it.)
